Family Fun Day

Family Fun Day – Saturday 29th April 2017

The Sport Ireland Yeats Tour of Sligo Family Fun Day returned popular demand for 2017. Regardless of age or cycling experience, this wonderful event gives families and new commers to cycling the chance to get on their bikes and discover the simple pleasures of cycling in a fun and enjoyable environment.

A Festival of Cycling entertainment ranging from fun cycling challenges to face painting and the choice of either a 10km or 2Km cycling spin will be on offer. It promises to be an exciting day for young and old alike !

Registration will take place on the day of the Event

(Only €3 entry per person)

  • 1.30pm – 2.30pm: Registration opens at Institute of Technology Sligo Knocknarea Arena
  • 2.00pm onwards: Fun activities including Cycle Skills Challenge and more
  • 3.00pm: 10km Hazelwood Spin for All (9yrs+, under 14’s must be accompanied by an adult)
  • 3.00pm: 2K Bike Trail at IT Sligo grounds (4 – 8yrs, must be accompanied by an adult who may cycle or walk along with the participant)
  • Goody Bag for All entrants

10km Hazelwood Spin for All (9yrs+)

10km Hazelwood Spin for All is about fun, enjoyment and participation, with safety a key priority. The cycle is along a flat route from IT Sligo to Half Moon Bay Hazelwood and back with a water/fruit stop. This cycle will have lead and trail cars and all cyclists will travel within the zone of the two cars.

 

2km Bike Trail (4-8yrs)

The 2km Bike Trail will take place inside the grounds of the IT Sligo. This Cycle will have a lead cyclist and marshals and the cycle will be at an easy pace to accommodate the young cyclists involved. Children must be supervised by an adult who can either cycle with them or walk beside them along the trail.

 

 

Other Entertainment on the day will include……

Cycle Skills Challenge – Cycling enthusiasts of all ages can test their riding skills against our loop featuring slaloms, planks, limbo bars and more. Can you score a clear round? No matter what level of rider you are, the loop will find a fun way to challenge you!

What to do at Registration

  • Please sign-in on the sign-in sheet and record the event number you are given, record the number of each child in your group apposite their name also.
  • At registration you will receive your event number (compulsory to be wore on your back for the duration of the event), your wristband this must be shown at the end to receive your event goody bag.
  • Safety Pins will be located near the exit along with pens for filling out the emergency contact info on the back of your event number.
  • If you have any queries please go straight to the Help Desk.

 How to collect your Goody Bag

  • After you complete your cycle event (10km or 2km) you can go to the Goody Bag collection area. You will queue here and hand over your wristband for a goody bag.

 Event Start 10km

  • Participants must line up behind the start line.
  • A Safety Message will be read over the mic so please listen carefully to this.
  • Once the event is started take due care on exiting the IT Sligo grounds as it is a mass start. Be aware of other cyclists around you.

Event Start 2km

  • Participants must line up behind the start line.
  • Adults cycling with children at the front of the queue and adults walking with children to the back.
  • Once stated, all cyclists must stay behind the lead cycling marshal.

 Some Safety Points for all Cyclists

  • A hard shell cycling helmet is compulsory for every participant in both the 10K Hazelwood Spin for All and the 2K Bike Trail.
  • All participants are requested to ensure that their bicycle is in a well maintained, road worthy condition and are advised to carry a pump, spare tube etc.
